2018-2019 CHADWICK SKIRMISH
Turning Point ScrimmageAfter the APIS Cold Turkey Scrimmage, all five APIS teams prepared for the next tournament. Despite the time shortage between the two events, all teams were able to advance their robots. Most teams during the APIS tournament had one way of scoring along with a steady chassis. However not only did the amount of scoring mechanisms increase overall, all teams were able to perform autonomous, a major improvement for all teams of 14641.
The tournament went extremely well for APIS, as team 14641B became tournament finalists, only to lose by a couple points in the finals. Team 14641E also recieved the design award. Perspective of team member Matthew Choi |
2018-2019 APIS SKIRMISH
APIS Cold Turkey ScrimmageIt came to a surprise to many of the team members at the time when it was announced that we'd have a tournament at our own school. Most teams helped out preparing the event at the school with the assistance from numerous staff members, even including the principal who was one of the ones who reviewed the engineering notebooks.
Overall, teams performed well. Although there were no significant wins, team 14641 received the design award and team 14641 entered the second rounds of elimination rounds! Perspective of team member Matthew Choi |
2018-2019 PRE-SEASON
South Korea 2018-2019 KickoffTo start off the season, Mr Jones organized a kickoff event for all students and VEX coaches to come and join. The event was held at our school, APIS, and about 6 coaches joined from 4 different schools. The regional manager of events Crystal Zhang was able to come and showcase the prototype V5's for us as well, which gave us ideas going into the game Turning Point.
Despite being a kickoff event, not many students showed up. However, for those who did, they were privileged in testing out the limits of the V5, or for at least the prototype, while the coaches went over the notebooks and other logistics about the 2018-2019 season. |
2017-2018 CHADWICK NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
National TournamentAfter our first tournament at Chadwick, 14641 teams both prepared for the national tournament. By using the web and the documentation team 14641A had taken during their first tournament at the Chadwick Scrimmage, both teams were able to advance their robot in greatly.
Despite the low performance scores we had overall, both teams got something out of it. 14641B got to know many of the Chadwick teams, most of which were in the same grade as them. 14641A got the design award, which was unexpected to say the least, but the team was content nonetheless. 2017-2018 CHADWICK SKIRMISH
First Tournament for APISFor the first tournament for APIS, only team 14641A competed from APIS. The team entered the scrimmage for experience, rather than results. Getting to know the layout of the pits area, the area where teams setup, and learning how the competition clocks work was what the team needed to experience first hand.
At the tournament, the team saw many advanced designs by teams from Chadwick International School and KIS Jeju. Through thorough documentation and photo taking, the team was able to learn more designs and would later on use the information for the betterment of the team. All in all, it became a great learning experience for all members involved! |
MAKING THE TEAM
First Year for APIS RoboticsWhen Mr. Jones launched the robotics program, there were three members of APIS robotics. The club struggled at the beginning few months; one member was absent, another was inexperienced and was busy with college applications. The remaining member, Simon Kang, began recruiting and advertising the robotics club. Eventually the club grew to 9 members, and from there, the club was able to grow.
As the members learned more about how robotics worked, and specifically how VEX competitions worked, every member for both teams 14641A and 14641B began putting forth ideas and following through with them. |
